Embroidery

I have been doing a little embroidery lately.  Sorry for the yellow pictures.
They were taken after dark so I guess that is what is making them look that way.

Mom and her aunts all did a lot of handwork including embroidery. So I have a few things I need to do.  I had just heard about redwork when I found these squares for a child's blanket.  So I thought I would do it all in red.
Below are the bow ties someone had done.  Some are hand sewn and some are machine stitched.  I don't know who made them.  It doesn't look like my mother's work.

The next two below are for 2 of my grandsons.  I really need to get these finished.  I have good intentions but time just flies by

Hubby and I have both been a little sick but are finally getting back to normal.  We're ready for a little sunshine and fun.  Thanks for stopping by.

Seedlings and Juice

The Cherokee Purple are from seeds I saved last year.  I am so happy that they came up.  Now if they will just fruit and then I can be proud.

We are looking at alternatives to help us live a good life when we retire.  We love growing our own vegetables but seeds are expensive.  So.....the reason for going with heirlooms and learning to properly save seeds.

I thought I would try some juicing.  I have a Jack La Lane juicer but supposedly since it is a centrifuge type it destroys some of the good benefits of juicing.  I didn't do proper research the first time.  I'm trying to be a lot more diligent about things now.  Research and review before buying.

They looked pretty here in the refrigerator.

The red one is more vegetable and the orange one is more fruit.  Loved the fruit one.  But discovered with the red one I am not a fan of strong celery and I have to be more careful with ginger.  It ended up being too spicy for me to drink and the celery became a turn off.   I'll keep trying and let you know how it goes.

Last weekend I got my seeds started.  The black rack is all tomatoes and all heirloom.  One six pack is from heirloom seeds I saved last year so I am curious if they will do anything. I'm a rookie but really want to learn. We're slowly converting to heirloom so that we can have more control.

I really had fun playing in the dirt.
Next some tomatillos, peppers, etc.

Last but not least is different lettuce's.  I want to see if I can keep them going for 6 months in the house..
I'll let you know what happens

Well, we have now had our second serious freeze.  Ironically where we are it was better Tuesday than Friday.  But on the opposite side of the coin, those north of our town had a worst freeze.

The poor Honda was a little was covered in ice Friday but Tuesday it was normal.  The storm stalled and didn't start moving in until afternoon.  I went home early from work so I wouldn't be stuck at work and it basically was a none event unless you lived further north.

The poor dodge looked horrible on Friday.  I still haven't cranked her so lets hope her battery is holding up.

Had a birthday this week.  Lordy, I don't like the numbers but I can't change them.  The two men in my house were sweet.  One got a card and one got me flowers.  I may hate my age but I am lucky to have a great family that cares.

They didn't smell much on Monday but by Friday they smelled great.

I love the mixture.  My bridal bouquet was a mix of spring flowers so I have always loved a mix of flowers no matter what time of the year.

Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes.
