Pictures did not load as planned but this is our stump from hell.  Cutting this tree down was my worst nightmare.  Shortly after we went into a drought and we have been avoiding the remains.

Our sweet dogs are hanging out going, what's going on?, is there food?, you know the drill.

Lil Bit is the only one left after this.........................

Pa wanted this thing gone.

He went back today and reported the stump in the ground is still burning.  We'll go back tomorrow and check on it.

We have been trying to grow pumpkins for several years.  I don't remember my parents ever having one.  When my kids were little we did the whole trick or treat thing.  But I don't remember us ever buying a pumpkin.  We did this year.

If I grew them every year I would go to this trouble but not for buying one and then doing all of this.

A Normal Saturday

The garden looks measly but we are still getting okra, jalapenos, and banana peppers.  I've been throwing them into a pot of pinto beans.  Long story short, I can't eat hot stuff anymore and do miss it.  I can tolerate the minor heat of the banana peppers when cooked.
Hubby put some stew meat and pork meat in a crock pot Friday before we left for work.  We had that for supper with rice Friday nite with fried okra.  Dear me, I love fried okra.  Saturday he put on a crock pot of pinto beans before we went to my dad's to mow and work in the garden.  Saturday nite we had leftover meat with fabulous beans with banana peppers.

Sunday's dinner was leftover meat, pinto beans, with his special rice, and a fantastic salad.  His special rice is cooked in chicken broth instead of water with a couple of slices of onion and bell peppers and, of course, butter and salt.
The salad was a regular lettuce and tomato salad but he added strawberries and avocados.  It was heaven with my balsamic vinegar dressing.

Hubby doing what he enjoys most.  Making things grow.  I stayed home today and worked here.  He went back out there and spent half the day planting a fall garden.  Gotta love him.  I sure wished we had known 40 years ago that he had a green thumb.  Lordy, we could have saved a lot of money.
I am sewing and crocheting.  I'll share in a couple of days.
Thanks for stopping by.

Poor Man's Bimini

Hubby is tackling some shade for our little aluminum boat.  We both like to fish but I can't handle sitting in the sun very long so he ends up fishing by himself.

We're spending labor day weekend on the coast so he decided to create his own "roof".  He has lots of good ideas within our budget.
So, here we go.

And of course tarps are involved.  The vacation weekend, we hope to spend great time with relatives and catch lots of crab and shrimp.  Hubby wants fish but I don't like fish.  I will be happy with crab and shrimp.  Can't wait.
A couple picture from the property.  I love this bush.

 I love the orange.

My lime tree.

This log needs to be burned but due to our endless drought it is still here.  I wanted memories of how beautiful it is so I had to take some pictures.

Wouldn't it have been cool if a rabbit had lived inside?

The other end.

PURPLE!
No sewing or crocheting tonight.  Too much visiting with hubby.  He has a birthday tomorrow.  Hopefully I can make it special.
Thanks for stopping by.

Fish Soup

Rick ate a fish soup awhile back and loved it.  He can't get the recipe so he's trying to create his own.  It looked great and I liked the taste.  I'm just not a fish eater.
It looked beautiful.  The man has talent.
Jack thinks Rick belongs to him.  Spot's the other male who is trying to adjust.  He belongs to our son.  But our son is working a weird evening shift and Spot doesn't get much time with his poppy.  So he is using Rick as his substitute poppy.  Jack will share a little.  Only a little.  But hey, he's trying to share.

Our little boys.  Spot (apple head) and Jack.

A couple of weeks ago I had to park on the other side of the driveway under our pecan tree.  I went to work and as I walked around the Honda there was a ton of bird poop on the passenger side.  My husband and I work for the same company so we usually spend lunch together.  At lunch I mentioned how gross the bird poop was.  That evening as supper was heating up, I was in my sewing room and noticed my husband out front.  The next thing I knew he was washing my car.  It was so sweet.

I like to think I am tough but I'm not.  Bird poop, someone vomiting, and blood push me over the edge.  So guess what I did tonight while making a salad.  I normally stick with paring knives but after chopping a while I put on my "big girl panties" and used hubby's Christmas present to do some chopping.  Of course, I proceeded to peel the side of my thumb.  Hubby was mowing and came through the house about that time.
"Help", he thinks I'm kidding.  I'm holding my thumb as tight as I can because I know if I see blood, I am DOOMED.  He follows me to our bathroom.  I let go so he can play doctor.  I see blood.  Lots of blood.  My head is on the counter top as he is fixing me.  I am so nauseous and dizzy.  When he's finished I go to the bed.  The little guys Jack and Spot are there to take care of Mom.  God I am a wuss.  15 minutes later I am playing in my office and hubby is finishing the salad.  I have a big booboo and hurt but somehow I ended up playing all evening.

Our first outdoor plumbing.  Sorry, couldn't resist.  Dad's bathroom had to be redone and we couldn't resist a photo op.  There's actually a funny story about a sibling and an outdoor toilet back in the 50's but I'm not brave enough to repeat it here.

Speaking of said sibling, here she is with my really great brother-in-law.  She's a force to be reckoned with and he's adorable.  Life is good.

Yes, I'm crazy but here is my latest haul from a thrift store.  They were nice enough to mark some of the boxes down since I took all of them.  I love sewing and find it more fun to take other people's leftover pieces and create something.
There was lots of different kinds of knit.  My mom use to make little lap blankets out of knit for when you were watching tv.  Back in the day she made her own clothes and after cotton came knit fabrics.  Knit is wash and wear because the care is so easy and no wrinkles.  The leftovers were always used for these little blankets.  The backing is a pale green knit.  I bought that bolt of fabric several months ago at a thrift store for 2.99.

This beautiful quilt top was in one of the boxes.  I tried to make a star one time before.  It's a lot harder than it looks.  I'm not a great seamstress but I enjoy sewing.  My family and friends suffer through my gifts.  This one will stay with me when I finish it.

A few months ago I bought 4 boxes of yarn from a thrift store.  They were full of remnant yarns and a few full skeins of yarn.

Those remnants are turning into a scrap granny.  A sage green is going on the off white now.  Yes, I do have a dozen projects going on at all times.  I can't seem to stop myself but I do finish things too so I guess that's okay.
The yarn boxes contained a bunch of plastic canvas cord.  I have some plastic canvas but I'm not sure what I am going to do with this.
Thanks for stopping by.  Time to crochet now.

A few weeks ago we went to my husband's family reunion.  They've been doing it since the 40's or 50's.  They always go to a park with a lake and camp out.  Thru the years that I have been going, there have been some interesting parks and some interesting reunions.  I'll save those stories for another day.  This one was nice and calm.

Hubby's wok comes in handy for most meals.  And.....I don't have to cook.

It was so hot and the dogs were miserable.  Rick and Aaron took them to the lake.  Gradually they got them all wet up to their necks.  They seem to enjoy the water as long as they didn't perceive it as a bath.

After our nitwit Jack decided to dry off with a sand bath.  Sigh......Hopefully all the sand will fall off before bed time.

Hubby/Rick with one of his grandsons.  This kid caught white bass, learned to clean a whole bunch, and learned to ski all in a couple days.  I hope he had fun.

Our son Aaron fishing.  Beautiful sunset that evening.  But then most of them were just as gorgeous.
More next time.  Have a great evening.

The header is my sister's pier on the bay.  Last weekend we saw my sister's new bay house (the blue one).  It's really nice.  She's always wanted a place on the water.
For the most part we are healthy and well.  I apologise for being away so long but life happens as we all know.  I'm still sewing and crocheting but also busy with other things.  Life is good.
