Hubby planted some squash late summer and I really didn't think they would produce much less before a frost.  Yet they did.
Saturday's bounty started with mustard greens and squash.

A better picture of the squash at home.  Plus a bowl of Serrano's and jalapenos I picked too.
Next are the pecans.  Hubby went back on Sunday and picked more than this.  I think we might have enough to last us awhile.  This is the first year dad's pecans have produced so well and........we weren't fighting the squirrels for every one of them.

I couldn't resist another picture.  Yellow and green together is so pretty.
Saturday was a long day but we harvested, did some more work on our shed, bought groceries, and still got chores done at home.  Tomorrow we'll cook, clean, etc.  Maybe I won't have to leave the house the whole day.  I enjoy getting to stay at home all day.  While I was home after surgery it was so cool to go days on end and not leave the house.  I was totally happy with that.  I do have times I get a little stir crazy but I think they are more tied to my stress level than needing to get out and go somewhere.
More tomorrow.  Thank you for stopping by.

These pics are from our Sunday road trip.  This sign is probably not antique but I liked the way it looked.
Small 2 lane roads always appeal to me.  We saw yellow and light orange leaves.  No red ones yet.  It was just nice to ride, windows down, and just chill.

We crossed the Trinity and San Jacinto rivers twice on our trip.

The San Jacinto is almost in our backyard so we have probably spent more time in/around it.  It was a nice day.  We get a little too focused on chores and forget to have fun.  The road trip made us remember how much fun we have together.  We soaked up sun, laughed, bought sweet potatoes from Louisiana or so the guy said, and found a gas can on the side of the road.  Score.

The end!

Road trip on Sunday.  It seems that all we do is go to work and work at home or at the property.  We decided to just take a ride Sunday and goof off for a bit.  A mulch business had covered their property with assorted windmills.  It was still early in the morning with a breeze.  They were beautiful turning with the light bouncing off of them.
The hay rolls mean a lot to us because we have just gone thru a couple of drought years and trying to recover.  It became so bad at one point our highways were full of trucks bringing in hay rolls from out of state.
Well for some reason blogger will not let me add more pics.  I'll say good night and try again tomorrow.  Thanks for stopping by.

These are the brandied pears Rick did a couple of weeks ago.
Peppers from Rick's garden.  He grew serranos and jalapenos.  The bushes are still thriving.  Hopefully they will survive our winter.    We bought some hatch chili's to go with them.  He canned 2 quart jars.
Hubby helped our son yesterday at the shop redoing the front end of our son's truck.  There is a waste site close to the shop.  Hubby saw some guys headed to the dump with these, stopped them, and got them for me.  How cool is that?  I have NO painting abilities but I will find a way to make them great with decorations or something.
Thanks for stopping by.  We did a mini road trip today.  I'll show pics from that later this week.

Jack the dog thinks that Rick's lap is his every night.  We have battles many nights when Rick tries to read, shell pecans, etc.  The spoiled brat whines and stares and totally annoys everyone in the house.  Thanks for ignoring the mess.  I pack tubs and then move them to storage.  Some day we will be where we want to be.

Of course, at some point he won.
I won.  Me, me, me.

I was so tough with our kids but let these silly 4 legged kids get away with everything.

I finally completed one baby blanket.  Not sure who it is for but at least I finally completed something recently.

Take care of yourselves.  We are all blessed.

FYI - Saturday post on Monday. The peppers are still doing good.   We have serranos and jalapenos.  The greens are slow growing.  It's still really warm here.  We just cleaned around the place.  Picked up pecans.  Came home intending to wash the truck but just fizzed out.  The truck has been parked awhile at the property and is just filthy.  We'll do it tomorrow.

These are what we picked.  Rick bought some hatch chili's to go with them.  He wants to chop them with bell peppers and onion.  We'll see.

Long Chore List

I worked on pruning the blackberry vines.  This picture is after considerable work.  They didn't get finished due to fire ants.  I didn't realize I was in them until one stung my butt.  Yep, stripping immediately was required.  I'm sure the neighbors had a good laugh.  That seemed to dampen my enthusiasm.  So I moved on to another chore.

We are actually getting some pecans this year.  It's due to hubby convincing some squirrels that they didn't want to live in the area.
And my 2 little lonely oranges are still there.  I hope I get to taste one this year.  My lemon tree is not doing anything this year.
The list is long but we are having fun.  Most of the time.

Have a good day tomorrow.

Pears

A neighbor was trying to trim a tree.  I told hubby.  He went down to help and came home with 5 bags of pears.  He spent today making 14 pints of Mincemeat Pears.  We have 2 bags left.  We still have regular canned pears from last year so the rest will be brandied pears.  Guess I'll be hitting the liquor store on the way home tomorrow for brandy.

We love rotisserie chickens.  We've been buying them once in awhile.  I found a small rotisserie for $72.00 dollars.  We cooked 2 chickens today.  I only have to cook 8 more to break even.  We did a marinade on the first one.  It was good.  The second one was lots of salt, pepper, and garlic powder.  We put a lemon and a lime inside.  It was fantastic.  Simple seems to always win out.

Lucky to have a nice weekend.  More stuff went to goodwill.  More stuff moved.  Life is steadily changing.  For the good hopefully.  I hope all of you have a great Monday.
