Redneck BBQ

The boys wanted to show off their redneck bbq.  It's borrowed from a cousin but they love it.  Gotta love them for loving the simple things.  The bottom is 1/2 of a propane tank.  The grill is a square piece of grating that swivels left or right.  And the top, oh lord help me here.  I try to maintain a certain amount of dignity but sometimes you just have to go with the flow.  The top is an old wheelbarrow to hold the heat in.

It's a 2 "bubba" operation!

But it does taste good.
It was a nice day at the property.  We enjoyed having our son to help us.  We were blessed with 2 great kids.  Our daughter and 4 grandsons are about 4 hrs away.  We don't get to spend the time with them that we would like.  I posted these pics on FB because the guys wanted our girl to see what they had done.  Unfortunately, shortly after we got a phone call from one of our older grandsons that the 3 yr old grandson had been bitten by a rattlesnake.  I am thankful that god blessed us by taking care of him.  He still has a bit of recovery time but the docs say he will make a full recovery.
I get home from work and try to sew every evening for a bit.  I don't seem to get much done but when I have a bit more I will post some pics.
Take care and enjoy the rest of your week.

When we can get away for lunch during the week we go to a local park.  We'll eat and read and watch the joggers.

We discovered some trees in bloom a few weeks ago due to the early warm weather.  The tags on these trees said they are mexican plums.  A week ago the blooms were gone and we are seeing small fruit. Visiting the park is like a brief picnic in our lives.   It's hard to explain but it's like going to a calming spot in the middle of a freaking "f'd" up day.  We work on taking a deep breath and just calming ourselves before we have to go back for 4 more hours.  Look at that gorgeous tree.  No leaves, just a trunk, limbs, and flowers.  Awesome.
This is one of the few shaded parking spots.  It's a fairly new park so I guess we have to wait for the trees and shrubs to do their thing.  In the mean time I don't know what we will do when summer hits.  We are southern Texas.  By the end of May you don't want to hang out at a park unless you are in a bikini with a couple of ice chests of beer/wine and a portable ac blowing directly on you.  People may think you are crazy but you don't go camping or anything outside in Texas summers without a fan, a/c unit, and a generator.  That's how we Texans roll.

Wet Garden Spot!

See my pretty rose. It's not the standard but smells wonderful!

See the tiny worm who will die if he hurts my pretty rose.

Hubby and I have reached the conclusion that there just might not be a typical garden this year. Last year we struggled thru a drought. This year we are catching up on our rain that we missed last year. That's Jack and Ruby running thru the mud like wild animals.

Moma's Lily's. I look forward to them each year. I don't think we ever get used to losing our momas.

We cut this shrub way back last year. It belonged to my Aunt Lillian.
